MY STUDIO

It is not necessary to have a professional studio to create. It is only in photographs that the images are presented cleanly, on white walls, beautiful tripods. And the artists and painters themselves with their clean hands and beautiful manicure, in beautiful dresses or extraordinary clothes only exist in the pictures.

I don’t have my own painting studio. I have a wall that I have protected so that I don’t have drops of paint on it when I paint. And I have a floor on which I can put a cushion, sit on it, and put brush pots and tubes of paint around me to paint on.

My so-called studio fits exactly into two small boxes (in which I keep the tubes with the paint) and into two jars of long-life marmalade, where I have my brushes. And it is my studio that I take to where I want to paint.

I don’t see how one can keep the corner where one paints completely clean. I have paint on my hands all the time; my shirt is covered with bright colours. I even stopped wearing shoes because even my shoes are painted.

And it seems to me that art – whatever its kind – is never born in purity. Creation needs disorder, imagination needs chaos. And if you manage to create all that – that’s where your studio is.
